Everest Three Passes Trek (Also Known as 3 Passes Trek) is a very thrilling and adventurous trekking destination in Nepal in Everest Region. It is the most liked trek by adventure seekers who love thrilling adventurous treks in the region where the Tallest Mountain in the World lies.

The Three Passes Trek offers beautiful landscapes of the Everest region, which passes through the three highest passes in the Khumbu Region of Everest namely Kongma-La Pass (5535 M), Cho-La Pass (5420 M), and Renjo-La Pass (5340 M). The Trek also offers to explore/observe the lifestyle of local ethnic people (The Sherpas) and their cultures, Alpine and Rhododendron forest along with a view of high snow-covered mountains and glaciers.

This trek is ideal for people seeking for thrilling and adventurous Trek in the high Himalayan region.

Day 3: Fly From Kathmandu to Lukla ( 2846 M) and Trek to Phakding (2650 M)

Day 4: Trek From Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 M)

Other Information

Permits Required

  1. TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System):

This Permit is required for every trekker trekking in Nepal. The permit can be obtained from Nepal Tourism Board and costs NPR.2000 (USD 15.00 to 16.00)

  1. Other Permits from Local Authorities:

As Everest Base Camp Trek requires you to enter many protected areas, you need to obtain a permit to enter this region. Following are the permits required for doing EBC Trek as per our itinerary.

  1. Khumbu Pasang Lamhu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit
  2. Everest Trek Card Implementation.
  3. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

You can obtain all these Permits from Either Lukla or Monjo.

All the permits for this trek will be arranged by your trekking service provider.

Food Accommodation

Like majority of the treks, EBC Trek offers you an accommodation in the tea houses with basic facilities (Little more than other regions). Every Tea house have menu and you can have your own choice. The Foods you get mostly are Nepali Dal-Bhat, Thukpa (Noodle Soup), Spaghetti, Mo:Mo or Dumplings etc.

Packing List

As this is an adventurous and challenging trek, you need to be well prepared for this trek.

It is recommended to have:

  1. A pair of Hiking/Trekking Boots along with Shoe Clamps for Snow Grips (only during the snowy period).
  2. A pair of walking sticks as per your requirement.
  3. Few pairs of warm/thick socks & two hiking trousers (You can decide on your own as no laundry will be available during the trek).
  4. 2-3 T-shirts along with long sleeve shirts.
  5. Warm jackets, and wind stoppers (for daytime while doing the trek in the lower region)
  6. Some dry fruits and nuts/nut bars, basic medicines (Paracetamol, anta-allergics, etc.), and Sunscreen.
  7. A Pair of knee supporters.
  8. Head Lamp, Toilet Paper (or you can buy it at the lodge), and quick-drying towel.
  9. Thermal Under wares (body warmers)
  10. Warm Gloves, Sunglasses, and sun hats.
  11. Sleeping bag, backpack (Duffle bag will be provided by your company), water bottle.

Detailed Itinerary

You will arrive at Kathmandu on day 1. Our representative will receive you at airport and will drop you at your hotel. Brief of the trekking will be there. If any of the permits are to be taken, our representative will arrange the same.

This day, you will be staying at Kathmandu for all the trek preparation works like obtaining permits for Treks, shopping of essential foods and trek gears and packing for the trek.

You will take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla which is around 30 minutes flight. You will be walking for around 3 hours to reach Phakding from lukla and will be staying at Phakding for the night.

This day, early after breakfast, you will walk towards Namche bazaar. You will be walking for around 4-5 hours this day and will be covering a distance of around 10 km. You will be staying at a local guest house for the night. The facilities at the local guest houses at Namche Bazar are far better than any other tea houses/guest houses of other trekking routes.

On this day, you will be staying at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and exploring Namche Bazaar. You will get to see beautiful views of the Everest range and will be observing the local culture and lifestyle of the people of Namche Bazaar.

After breakfast as usual you will start the trek at around 7:30 in the morning. After a 6-7 hours trek, you will reach Tengboche where you can have great views of the high mountains. You will stay at a local guesthouse for the night.

On this day, you will be walking for around 6-7 hours to reach Dingboche from Tengboche. You will be walking slowly compared to the last day due to the high altitude. You will be staying at night in a local guest house/tea house at Dingboche for the night.

This is a decent day with only 4-5 hours of moderate trek and an altitude gain of only around 320 M. After breakfast at Dingboche, you will walk uphill to Chhukung Valley. Rest there for the night at a Teahouse. Some people prefer to stay at Dingboche, but walking further to Chhukung will shorten your path for next day as you will be doing Kongma-La Pass the next day.

 

On this day, you will be passing the first pass of the three passes, the Kongma-La Pass (5535M). This is a difficult day as it will take around 8 hours to reach Lobuche. You have to start early in the morning with plenty of water and lunch packed. After around 8 hours of trek, you will reach Lobuche and rest there for the night.

After early morning breakfast at Lobuche, you will now head towards Gorakshep. After a walk of around 3 hours, you will reach Gorakshep and have lunch there. After Lunch, you will be guided to Everest Base Camp (5364 M) and have a majestic view of the Himalayas. You will return from EBC to Gorakshep and stay there for the night.

Early in the morning before sunrise, you will head towards Kalapatthar from Gorakshep which is around 2 hours trek. Kalapatthar is the highest altitude point you will reach during this trek. After spending some time at Kalapatthar, you will get back to Gorakshep and have breakfast. After breakfast, you will walk down to Dzongla for an overnight stay.

 This is the day you will do the 2nd pass of the trek, the  Cho-la Pass (5420 M). You will start your day with plenty of water and lunch packed, walk slowly, do the Cho-la Pass, and reach Dragnag for the overnight stay.

This day, you walk decently to reach Gokyo. You will reach Gokyo for lunch. You can have a walk around Gokyo lake in the evening. Stay at a local guesthouse for the night. It will be a good idea to do the laundry at Gokyo.

On this day, you will stay at Gokyo for Acclimatization. You can summit the Gokyo-Ri (5360 M) for a sunrise view and beautiful view of different Himalayas. You will return to the hotel for breakfast and explore Gokyo Lake and stay overnight.

This is the day you will cross the 3rd pass of the trek, the  Renjo-la Pass (5340 M). You will walk slowly, do the Renjo-la Pass, and reach Lumde for the overnight stay.

 

A Decent day with decent walk down to Namche Bazaar via beautiful Tame Village. Overnight at a Local Guest House. You will walk downhill for around 6-7 hours in total for the day.

This day after breakfast, you will start your day back to Lukla. The distance is around 13.5 km and it will take around 6-7 hours of trekking to reach Lukla. This will be your last day of trekking. You will be staying at Lukla for the night.

After finishing the trek, you will be taking a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
