Other Information

Permits Required

  1. TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System):

This Permit is required for every trekker trekking in Nepal. The permit can be obtained from Nepal Tourism Board and costs NPR.2000 (USD 15.00 to 16.00)

  1. Other Permits from Local Authorities:

As Gokyo Valley Trek requires you to enter into a protected area, Sagarmatha National Park, you need to get a permit for Sagarmatha National Park Entry.

You can obtain all these Permits from Either Lukla or Monjo.

All the permits for this trek will be arranged by your trekking service provider.

Food and Accommodation

Like the majority of the treks, Gokyo Valley Trek offers you accommodation in tea houses with basic facilities. Every Tea house has a menu and you can have your own choice. The Foods you get mostly are Nepali Dal-Bhat, Thukpa (Noodle Soup), Spaghetti, Mo: Mo or Dumplings, etc.

 

Packing List

As this is an adventurous and moderately difficult trek, you need to be prepared for this trek.

It is recommended to have:

  1. A pair of Hiking/Trekking Boots along with Shoe Clamps for Snow Grips (only during the snowy period).
  2. A pair of walking sticks as per your requirement.
  3. Few pairs of warm/thick socks & two hiking trousers (You can decide on your own as no laundry will be available during the trek).
  4. 2-3 T-shirts along with long sleeve shirts.
  5. Warm jackets, and wind stoppers (for daytime while doing the trek in the lower region)
  6. Some dry fruits and nuts/nut bars, basic medicines (Paracetamol, anta-allergics, etc.), and Sunscreen.
  7. A Pair of knee supporters.
  8. Head Lamp, Toilet Paper (or you can buy it at the lodge), and quick-drying towel.
  9. Thermal Under wares (body warmers)
  10. Warm Gloves, Sunglasses, and sun hats.
  11. Sleeping bag, backpack (Duffle bag will be provided by your company), water bottle.

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive at Kathmandu on day 1. Our representative will receive it at the airport and will drop you at the hotel. If time allows you can explore the city on your own.

Staying in Kathmandu for all the trek preparation works like obtaining permits for Treks, meeting your guide, and getting a briefing about the trekking. Check your gear and do shopping if needed. We can arrange sightseeing arrangements as per your requirement if interested. In the evening packing for the trek.

You will take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla which is around 35-40 minutes flight. Arrive at Lukla, take breakfast, meet your porter there, and walk for around 3-4 hours to reach Phakding from Lukla and will be staying at the lodge for the night.

This day, after breakfast, you will walk towards Namche Bazaar. You will be walking for around 5-6 hours this day. You will be staying at a local guest house for the night. The facilities at the local guest houses at Namche Bazaar are far better than any other tea houses/guest houses on other trekking routes.

Namche Bazaar is quite a big market area. You can enjoy the views and explore the village. Take it easy and relax at Namche Bazaar. At Namche Bazaar, you can have a feeling like a city as you can get ATM booths, restaurants, bars, etc.

After breakfast at Namche Bazar, you will start your trekking for the day. This day you will be walking for around 7 hours to reach Dole. You will be staying at a local guest house for the night.

As usual, after breakfast, you will start your trekking for the day. You will be walking for around 6 hours uphill to reach Machhermo. You will be staying at a local guest house for the night.

After breakfast at Machhermo start your trek for the day. Walk for around 5-6 hours to reach Gokyo. Gokyo is a very beautiful place situated at the shore of Gokyo Lake and one of the highest settlements in Nepal and the world.

After early breakfast in the morning, you go for Gokyo-Ri (5483 M) summit. You will be overwhelmed by the beautiful view of Mt. Everest, Ngozumpa Glacier, and the whole view of the Khumbu Himalayan Range including Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nutse, Mt. Makalu (8481m), Mt. Cho-Oyu (8153m) and Mt. Gychung Kang (7922m). In the evening after returning from Gokyo-Ri, explore Gokyo Lake and return to your accommodation.

After breakfast at Gokyo, start your journey down to Dole. It will take around 7 hours to reach dole from Gokyo walking downhill. Stay at a local guest house at Dole for the night.

Have your breakfast at Dole. Start your day and walk downhill for around 6 hours to reach Namche Bazaar. Stay at a local guest house at Namche Bazaar.

This day after breakfast, you will start your day back to Lukla. The distance is around 13.5 km and it will take around 6-7 hours of trekking to reach Lukla. This will be your last day of trekking. You will be staying at Lukla for the night.

After finishing the trek, you will be taking a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
