The Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek is an easy trek filled with mesmerizing views of the Langtang Himalayas. The trip is best for spending holidays in Nepal on the lap of the mountains and exploring the first National Park of Nepal. This trek offers you to explore the Tibetan culture along with a stunning view of many snowcapped mountains. Other Information

Permits Required

  1. TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System):

This Permit is required for every trekker trekking in Nepal. The permit can be obtained from Nepal Tourism Board and costs NPR.2000 (USD 15.00 to 16.00)

  1. Langtang National Park Permit:

As you will be entering Langtang National Park Area for this trek, a permit for the Langtang National Park entrance is also required.

  1. Other Local Area Permits:

You will be required to get a permit for entering Shivapuri National Park.

All the permits for this trek will be arranged by your trekking service provider.

Food and Accommodation

Like the majority of the treks, Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek offer you accommodation in the tea houses. Every Tea house has a menu and you can have your own choice.

However, the following are the common foods you will get to eat during the trek.

  1. Breakfast: Simple Breakfast (Eggs any item, toast or Tibetan Bread, Muesli, Oat Porridge, pancakes, etc.)
  2. Lunch: Nepali Thali Set (Plain Rice, Potato and green vegetable curry, Lentil soups, Spicy tomato pickle, Chicken curry optional), Pasta and Spaghetti, Mo.Mo or dumplings, Fried Rice, Noodles, Pizza, etc.
  3. Dinner: Nepali Thali Set (Plain Rice, Potato and green vegetable curry, Lentil soups, Spicy tomato pickle, Chicken curry optional), Pasta and Spaghetti, Mo.Mo or dumplings, Fried Rice, Noodles, Pizza, etc.

 

Packing List

As this is a moderate trek to the Langtang area, you do not require any special gear for this trek.

It is recommended to have:

  1. A pair of Hiking/Trekking Boots along with Shoe Clamps for Snow trips (only during the snowy period).
  2. A pair of walking sticks as per your requirement.
  3. Few pairs of warm/thick socks & two hiking trousers (You can decide on your own as no laundry will be available during the trek).
  4. 2-3 T-shirts along with long sleeve shirts.
  5. Warm jackets, and wind stopper (for daytime while doing the trek in the lower region)
  6. Some dry fruits and nuts/nut bars, basic medicines (Paracetamol, anta-allergics, etc.), and Sunscreen.
  7. A Pair of knee supporters.
  8. Head Lamp, Toilet Paper (or you can buy it at the lodge), and quick-drying towel.
  9. Thermal Under wares (body warmers)
  10. Warm Gloves, Sunglasses, and sun hats.
  11. Sleeping bag, backpack (Duffle bag will be provided by your company), water bottle.

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive at Kathmandu on day 1. Our representative will receive it at the airport and will drop it at the hotel. If time allows you can explore the city on your own.

Staying in Kathmandu for all the trek preparation works like obtaining permits for Treks, meeting your guide, and getting a briefing about the trekking. Check your gear and do shopping if needed. We can arrange sightseeing arrangements as per your requirement if interested. In the evening packing for the trek.

In the morning after breakfast at around 8:00 am, leave for Syafrubesi from Kathmandu by private transportation. Reach Syafrubesi at around 3:00 pm and stay there for the night at a guesthouse.

The trek starts from Syafrubesi. Start your day at around 7:30 am after breakfast. Will walk through the path beside a small river and forest. On the way, there is a hydropower project and small bushes of bamboo. In total, the walk is for around 6-7 hours for the entire day. Reach at Lama Hotel after having lunch on the way to Bamboo. Overnight at Lama Hotel at a teahouse.

Start your day at Lama Hotel at around 7:30 am after breakfast. Walking through the forest and crossing the river on the way, reach Langtang Village after a moderate 6-7 hours walk. Have your lunch on the way to Ghoratabela. Stay for the night in a tea house at Langtang Village.

Kyanjin Gompa, also known as Kyanjin Valley is the final base for the Langtang trek. Start your day after breakfast at around 7:00-7:30 am from Langtang Valley. Reach Kyanjin Gompa for lunch after a walk of 3-4 hours. Explore the Kyanjin Gompa in the afternoon, visit Cheese Factory, and stay at a tea house there for the night.

Start your day after breakfast early in the morning this day. The breakfast will be ready at around 6:00 am and start trekking after breakfast at around 6:30. Climb up a steep hill for 3:30-4:30 hours in total in the day and climb down the same hill in 2:30 to 3:00 hours. After climbing up the hill for 2:00 to 3:00 hours, you will reach the lower peak of Kyanjin Ri (Also called as a lower viewpoint). Rest there for like half to one hour and enjoy the view. You can reach the Kyanjin Ri Peak after a climb of one to one and a half hours from there. Rest there for like half to 1 hour and enjoy the view. After climbing down the hill, stay at the tea house for the night.

This day, as you don’t have to walk uphill, you can walk very fast compared to the initial days. You will have breakfast early in the morning and go down to Lama Hotel for the night. You can have lunch on the way.

On this day, you will leave Lama Hotel after breakfast. You will descend the same path until Pahiro. After that, the path separates and you will walk towards Thulo Syabru. A total walk of around 6-7 hours will take you to Thulo Syabru, which is also a big Tamang Village. Stay there at a local guesthouse overnight.

After breakfast in the morning, you will start your trekking. You will walk mostly through the forest. After a decent walk of around 6-7 hours, you will reach Chandanbar. Chandanbari is very famous for Cheese Factory. You can enjoy fresh cheese there. You will stay at a local guesthouse overnight.

As usual, after breakfast, you will leave your hotel and start trekking. This day, the way is uphill almost all. You will feel more tired than in previous days due to ascending and uphill walking. You have to walk for around 6-7 hours to reach Gosainkunda. Gosainkunda is also a very holy place for Hindu Ethnic People. In the evening, you can have a walk around the Lake. You will stay at a local guesthouse overnight.

You have to start your day little early than usual because you have to do the Gosainkunda Pass (4610 M). After an uphill walk for around 2.5-3 hours, you will reach the top of the Gosainkunda Pass. There is a lake called Surya Kunda at the top. After reaching the top of Gosainkunda Pass, you can take few photographs and relax for some time. Now, you will descend towards Ghopte. The path is very narrow and rocky. You have to be very careful while walking this way. After a 6-7 hours walk, you will reach Ghopte and stay there at a teahouse overnight.

After breakfast at your teahouse in Ghopte, you will start your trek for the day. You will walk downhill almost all of the time. You will be having your lunch on your way around Thadepati. Thadepati is a good viewpoint for high mountains. After a decent walk of around 7 hours, you will reach Kutumsang. You will stay at a teahouse at Kutumsang for the night.

After breakfast at your teahouse as usual, you will start your trek for the day. The trail today will be both ups and downs. You will pass many small villages on the way. You can enjoy the countryside along your walk today. After a walk of around 6 hours, you will reach Chisapani. You will stay at a local teahouse for the night.

Today will be the final day of your trek. It will be a nice and easy day. You will enter the Shivapuri National Park area today. The path will be uphill till Shivapuri Peak (A day hike place for Kathmandu) and then walk downhill till Sundarijal. You will walk for around 4 hours in total for the day. You will take a bus ride to your hotel from Sundarijal
